Description
4th Annual Pizza & Social Justice Story Time Feb. 07, 2023

Pizza & Social Justice will hold its Fourth Annual P&SJ Story Time discussion of racial justice and diversity books for children and teens on Tuesday, February 7 at Peoples Community Church. Most of you have participated in one or all of the previous Story Time discussions. The format is basically to allow each of the participants to bring to our attention (and the attention of all participants) one or two books for children or teens that focus on a theme of racial justice, race unity, diversity, or antiracism.

Ideally participants should bring a copy of the book (or books, if they want to share more than one) to the in-person gathering at Peoples Community Church. If the participant is joining P&SJ online that night, they should have at least an image/picture of the book to share if they do not have a copy of the book itself.

For each book, participants should come prepared with the following information:

    -  Title and author of the book
    -  A brief description of the book that includes what appealed to the participant about the book.

In addition to sharing interesting books on these themes--both long-time favorites that participants may have grown up with or read to their children/grandchildren, and recently published books--an important value of this Story Time exercise is encouraging participants to seek out and think about these books and their impact on our children and youth. If they ask their school or public librarian for a recommendation, that is a valuable conversation. If they ask a sibling or co-worker or their child/grandchild for a recommendation, that is a valuable conversation. If they ask a favorite teacher for a recommendation, that is a valuable conversation. If they search online or go to their favorite bookstore to identify a book in this genre, that is a valuable exercise.
